Experience

A senior litigation counsel and partner with the firm, Derrick earned the law faculty prize for academic achievement before heading to York University, where he completed his Master of Laws at Osgoode, writing his Master’s thesis on the emerging law of the “Duty of Good Faith” in commercial contracts. He has appeared in front of all levels of Court including the Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada, the Tax Court, various Medical Tribunals, The Human Rights Board, the Ontario Municipal Board and Local Planning Appeals Tribunal.

About Me

Derrick is a problem solver whose job is principally to keep his clients out of court. However, if court is necessary, he is a practical and professional litigator with a very good reputation at the bar.

Recognition and Accomplishments

Derrick is a Certified Specialist with the Ontario Law Society in Civil Litigation, has lectured at Mohawk College (teaching its Civil Procedure class as part of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario), and has led and participated in numerous presentations of interest in civil litigation.

Why I Practice Law

Derrick has always been interested in the practice of law and has always considered it a privilege to be part of such a great profession.

Out of the Courtroom

Derrick plays both squash and soccer, despite his age. Having originally studied music, he still plays both the piano and guitar in his spare time. Derrick is an avid photographer who has traveled extensively in the Far East (where his study of Japanese came in handy) and Central and South America. He's completed many photo projects and his work has been exhibited and sold.
